Trump Endorses Andrew Cuomo for New York City Mayor

US President Donald Trump has endorsed Andrew Cuomo for New York City mayor, urging voters not to elect left-wing candidate Sohran Mandani.

'Whether you like Andrew Cuomo personally or not, you really have no choice. You should vote for him, and I hope he does a great job,' Trump posted on his channel Truth Social on Monday evening. 'He has the ability to do it, Mandani doesn't!'

The president said on the eve of the highly-watched mayoral election that he would hesitate to send federal funding to his hometown of New York if Mandani is elected.

'As president, it would be difficult for me to give a lot of money to New York, because if a Communist Party runs New York, you're just wasting the money you send there,' Trump said in a television interview.

Polls suggest that the Democratic nominee, Mamdani, is ahead of Cuomo, who is running as an independent after being defeated by Mamdani in the Democratic primary. Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa is trailing.

Trump, also a Republican, declined to endorse Sliwa in his post, saying, "A vote for Curtis Sliwa is a vote for Mamdani."
